All the words that were needed
A photograph
A rapture.
And for every failed lover
That smiled the day after
And remembered nothing
Of the poetry the night before,
Or the morning’s slumber.
And through every unwanted birth
And fatherhood: remember.
For every life story
And for every man who
had forgotten
The lyrics to his fiction –
And the princess who fled
To take up the throne,
Or the philosopher, or failure,
And everything thereafter.
